The Dawson News was a weekly newspaper printed in the town of Dawson, New Mexico from early 1921 through October of 1929.

The full text of the Dawson News for the full life of the newspaper is available upon request on CD from the Dawson New Mexico Association as a genealogical resource for anyone interested in the people and history of this abandoned coal-mining town in Colfax County, New Mexico. This once dynamic, thriving coal mining community was active from 1900 to 1950 and at it’s peak, around 1920, supported a population of more than 6,000. It was located 35 miles southwest of Raton, New Mexico in the Vermejo River Valley, 5 miles north of US Highway 64.

A sample of the 1921 editions of the Dawson News (Volume 1 in Adobe Reader) may be downloaded to your computer by clicking here. It is a fairly large file (36 MB), but will give you an idea of what is available on the CD.

Special thanks and recognition to Jerry Scanlon and his daughter-in-law, Linda Scanlon, and the Dawson New Mexico Association for making this archive CD possible.
