The following documents are excerpts from records transcribed originally from Richmond County, NC Estate Records 1772-1933 (Hardy-Meekins) Book II (Index-NOPQRS). These same records can be found in the book, "Our Native Heath-Richmond County, North Carolina 1779-1899," on pages 6, 14, 22, and 31. This first entry shows and interesting case involving the loss of a horse. It's value to this genealogy research are the names mentioned, particularly Captain (John) Speed and Claudius Pegues who were related by marriage. This fourth case below dated 1808 September Term, is interesting because it involves a number of gentlemen who have apparently petitioned the court to be removed from their bonds as Securities for guardianship of Elizabeth Speed's children who are descendants of Colonel John Speed. The issue appears to involve some question regarding the conduct of Colonel Speed's widow, Elizabeth Speed.
